Here are our top tips for effortless fall style.
1. PLAN IT OUT
Mornings can be hectic as you tell your kids to put their shoes on for the hundredth time, but planning out outfits can make it just a little smoother. Just like you’d meal plan on Sunday night if you’re trying to save time, why not give outfit planning a shot to create a little less stress in the mornings and outfit-regret-free days.
2. FIND INSPIRATION
I'm always inspired by other women's style. Find stylish women to follow—whether it’s your favorite Instagram influencer or your sister’s best friend. Discover fashionistas whose style inspires you, then use their photos as inspiration to help plan your outfits. Not sure where to start? Check out Instagram and Pinterest for endless inspiration.
3. STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
It never hurts to try something new. Whether that includes a bright new trending color that stands out from your usual neutral palette, or shifting from those skinny jeans to maybe a straight silhouette, great style is built from trying new things. Who knows what trends you might discover you love! You never know til you try them!
4. ALWAYS ACCESSORIZE
My rule is to always wear at least one accessory even if it's just stud earrings. Try to wear at least one accessory, whether it’s a statement necklace, a trendy colored bag or a great pair of earrings (or all of the above). A solid statement piece can take an outfit from plain and boring to stylish in seconds.
5. CREATE A COORDINATING WARDROBE
My not-so-secret secret weapon is a coordinating wardrobe. Moms make enough decisions in the day. I don't want to have to give too much thought to what I'm wearing. A closet full of items that can be mixed and matched with ease can take the guesswork out of your morning. Invest in pieces you love that will last a lifetime, like a great pair of jeans, a simple black tee and quality leather handbag and flats.
6. TRY A STATEMENT SHOE
When it comes to footwear, color, print and style packs a huge aesthetic punch—and they don’t have to be sky-high heels, either. There's no way I'm chasing a baby and preschooler around while wearing heels. Flats can make the same statement and your feet will thank you. Even if your look is casually thrown together, adding animal printed flats or a pop-of-color wedge can make things appear more intentional and stylish.
7. GET TO KNOW YOUR BODY SHAPE
The golden rule of stylish women? Fit first. You have to try different fits and get to know your body shape so you learn what looks and feels best. Consider yourself a petite pear shape and prefer to hide your hips and highlight your shoulders? Find styles that show off those shoulders. Avoid styles that highlight your hips. Build your closet with clothes that put the spotlight on your favorite features.
